School Psychologist

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to introduce myself to you as the school psychologist at Maarif School and provide information on how I can be of assistance. My name is Alexandra Csöndör, and I have been working at Maarif as a school psychologist since September 2025.

I earned my degree in psychology at Eötvös Loránd University. During my university years, I volunteered at an experiential education children’s camp and worked as a career mentor for people with disabilities. I am currently training to become a supervisor in autogenic training. I believe that continuous learning and development form the foundation of credible professional work.

What does a school psychologist do?
A school psychologist’s role is to support the school’s educational and teaching activities while promoting the healthy psychological development of children and adolescents. My work focuses primarily on prevention: the goal is to recognize potential problems early and provide help in addressing them. A school psychologist supports not only students but all members of the school community. Students, parents, and teachers can all turn to me with their questions or difficulties.

Dear Students,

At school, you may meet me in several ways: during group sessions, individual consultations, and occasionally by observing classroom activities. Conversations with me are confidential and follow strict privacy rules. When someone asks for help, we discuss together what kind of support they need, what goals we aim to achieve, and approximately how many sessions we will have. If necessary, we also discuss who should be involved in the process. During consultations, I do not provide ready-made solutions but help you find the best path for yourself by relying on your own resources.

Group sessions are organized in coordination with your class teacher and cover topics such as maintaining mental health, developing self-awareness, and issues related to further education or career choices. Individual or family consultations can be requested by students and parents, either in person at the school or via email. For students under 18, parental consent and cooperation are required for personal consultations. The parental consent form is available here:

Dear Parents,

If you feel that it could be helpful for your child to talk with a professional about a particular issue, please feel free to contact me. Consultations with the school psychologist can support understanding your child’s development and discussing any difficulties together. Conversations can also help in cases of significant changes or stressful situations in family life (e.g., divorce, moving, the birth of a sibling, bereavement). Consultations may also be useful if there is tension or frequent conflict within family relationships, or if a child shows notable changes in school performance, behavior, or mood.

It is important to emphasize that consultations with the school psychologist are not psychotherapy for either the child or the family. Sometimes, a particular problem may go beyond the scope of a school psychologist—in such cases, I assist in finding the appropriate professional or institution and organizing the next steps.
